Liz,
I read with interest your article in our most recent Arkansas United Methodist, and wondered if you would be willing to share your documents with me. I am the Sr. Pastor of Asbury UMC in Little Rock. We have the privilege of being guided by your former Sr. Pastor, now Bishop Gary Mueller. [I hope I’m correct on that!] We have been talking on staff of doing this very thing which you addressed in your article of March 15, 2013. We have scheduled the Disaster Plan Manager from UAMS this coming summer to help us with the best routing, etc.. for building disasters, but do not have a guideline or model for the very hurtful areas of which you address. I understand we would need to make adaptations to your plan, but am hopeful you will be willing to share your ‘blueprint.’ If not, I understand, and thank you for your time.
May God continue to bless you in your most excellent ministry!

Hope that the post helps, Margaret. Let em know if you have any questions. I've seen a shift of youth and young adults using Twitter more in the Dallas area than before - probably because their moms are on Facebook! :-) But yes, I would think enlisting some young adults to be social media evangelists would be a huge help. Let us know about your Twitter adventures.

Thank you for your article/blog. First reading caught my interest and I will want to read it again (likely more than twice!) to absorb what you have said. I have set up a Twitter account for our church and I know we have a small handful of younger adults using Twitter a lot. Maybe I need to "plug them in" for this area of communicating for our church.

One thing I have learned is to consider different time zones, especially for Twitter. I often tweet at different times of the day to catch people in different parts of the country. Also I have had people tell me that they look forward to reading my Facebook posts first thing in the morning. Even though I may post during the day, I try to be consistent about an early morning post... but alas, that doesn't really address trying to reach new folks:)

As I read this, I kept thinking also, that what is being shared is a consideration. I have a method in which I post things in off times that are more for informational purposes and fill out the profile. Pictures, service times, exciting moments and thoughts. Then, when I post something that is more time sensitive or is a reflective post with more immediacy, I find that if the article posted is interesting, people scroll back and check back posts every few weeks when they are bored. I know I do that personally and have seen articles receive likes and comments even up to a year after posting - especially on Facebook. Twitter is more in the now. Good stuff. Thanks.
